Tribulation

TRIAL. . . . . . TRUST. . . . . . TRAVEL

The Greek word for tribulation is

thlispis (Romans 5:3-5),

“a pressing together, pressure,

oppression, affliction, distress, straits."

Certainly, the first century Christians

understood this quite well

as many of them had experienced

their property, possessions or lives

endangered by their confession.

In Acts 14:22 we read,

Paul and Barnabas returned

to Lystra and to Iconium and to Antioch,

"strengthening the souls of the disciples,”

encouraging them to continue in the faith,

and saying,

“through many tribulations

we must enter the kingdom of God.”

These passages begin to open up

one of the secrets

that belong to every Christian.

That secret is the hidden purpose God has

in daily delivering us over to

pressing trials and tests

that God has uniquely designed for us.

Each trial is specifically engineered by Him

to produce the image of Jesus Christ in our soul.

These tribulations are

God’s statement

that He approves of us

– Romans 5:3; Hebrews 12:5.

We will know more

of what actually these trials have produced

when we are with the Lord.

But for now...

we have the tremendous promise

of Romans 8:28.
