9 A New Identity
The Jordan - Identification
The Jordan River in the Old Testament
typifies a deeper union of our heart
with Christ in His death.
That I may know Him
and the power of His resurrection,
and the fellowship of His sufferings,
being conformed to His death,
if, by any means,
I may attain to
the resurrection from the dead. Philippians 3:10-11
“Knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him,
that the body of sin might be done away with,
that we should no longer be slaves of sin.
For he who has died has been freed from sin.” Romans 6:6-7
"I have been crucified with Christ;
it is no longer I who live,
but Christ lives in me;
and the life which I now live in the flesh
I live by faith in the Son of God,
who loved me and gave Himself for me.” Galatians 2:20
Identification with Christ begins
with understanding our own death and burial (of the old man),
and the resurrection of the new man.
We are no longer slaves …
“For he who has died has been freed from sin” (Romans 6:7).
“When Christ calls a man He bids him come and die...”
The Cost of Discipleship by Dietrich Bonhoeffer
